The Emerald Outback Trail System is part of the Town of Beech Mountain, which is the highest town in Eastern America. Topping out at 5506', up a two-lane road that climbs 1300 feet in about three and a half miles, it's worth it to stay a while once you make it here.

Beech Mountain has more than 750 lodging options, ranging from country inns to vacation homes & condos.

While you're here, stop by the general store, view a sunset from a town park, enjoy dinner at one of many restaurants, visit the Beech Mountain Resort (seasonally) or attend one of the many events and concerts that take place on Beech Mountain. The North Carolina Birding Trail runs across this mountain, and it is also a Mountain Heritage Trout Waters-designated town.
Twenty miles of additional trails are scattered within the town, so don't limit yourself to one trail system-- try them all!
